The Lone Star state gained 43,600 jobs in May – its fifth consecutive month of growth, the Texas Workforce Commission said Friday. Overall, there are now 11.2 million people employed in Texas — which is “more than ever before,” the TWC said in statement.
Also in May, the unemployment rate in Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington ticked down to 8.1 percent, from 8.2 percent in April.
Texas Workforce Commission Chairman Tom Pauken said employers in most industries added jobs last month. "It is encouraging to see the Texas’ annual job growth rate is back in positive territory," he said.
The manufacturing sector added 7,000 jobs in May, followed by the mining and logging industry, which added 6,500 jobs. In the professional and businesses services sector, the state added 10,200 jobs in May. About 8,200 trade, transportation and utilities jobs were added.
